this is business casual
I was doing cardio at the gym the other day watching a What Not to Wear marathon. There was one woman who claimed her baggy jeans, XXL football jersey and dirty sneakers was "business casual." Well, Stacy and Clinton set her straight! We get to wear jeans on Friday and I always try to make sure I keep my sense of business casual even when wearing jeans to work.
Here's what I'm wearing:
Sweater: not sure, but very old
Black turtleneck: The Limited
Jeans: Paige Premium
Shoes: Nine West
Scarf: Gustav Klimt print scarf
Related Looks: nine west, business casual, paige premium

There's a woman in my office (my supervisor) who is just like the woman in your office. I much prefer your 'jeans on friday" look.
1I sooooooooo love this!
2Specially that beautiful cardi and your headband! You look so adorable!
I really love this look! I
that scarf! I really think you look fab in this business cas
look!
3I LOVE THIS!!!! You Rock Sy!!
4I have to say I'm a jeans, Uggs and hoodies kinda casual friday girl, but I too watch alot of WNTW and agree that I could step it up a bit too.
I love the print on the scarf!
5this is cute and very office appropriate...I love the scarf!!
6This is a perfectly fine outfit for work if your office allows jeans (I love, love, love black turtlenecks any which way), but I still wouldn't call it business casual. I mean, the term is probably one of the most loosely defined in our language, but generally I would not include jeans in business casual.
7Cute look sy!
I am so confused on the jeans in the office rule where I work. Our employee manual says no jeans ever. But, a lot of people wear jeans on Fridays. When Congress isn't in session, some people wear jeans everyday. I used to wear jeans with heels and a cute top/sweater/etc. every Friday. But, they sent out an e-mail telling people to dress professionally. Then, tons of people still wore jeans. Basically, I am confused by the whole situation. I think I am switching back to jeans this week, though.
8I say always err on the side of more professional. I mean, it's just as easy for me to put on dress pants as it is to put on a pair of jeans. You can make jeans look professional if they're dark, without the fade-marks, maybe trouser cut, with maybe a button down blouse and boots, but instead of putting in all that effort, I would just wear dress pants or a skirt and not have to worry about whether my top, shoes, and accessories dress it up enough.
9But that's just me, and every workplace is different. I meet with clients sometimes who wear jeans and a collared shirt, and some who wear a full on suit!
I don't have any "work pants," so for me, I relish the chance to wear jeans. I have a strange body and every time I try to shop for professional pants, I give up after hours of trying on pants at seemingly every store in the mall. But, I do agree with you on erring on the side of professionalism.
10I didn't used to own any dress pants either until I moved to wear it was too cold not to. I prefer dresses, because one, the ones I have are more forgiving of big lunches than pants, and two, they're a whole outfit in one piece!
11I love dresses! I wear skirts occasionally, but I am generally a dress girl.
12Me, too! I own about 25 work dresses, and unless it's cold enough to require pants, that's pretty much all I wear.
13lilkim, my old office was the same way. I just played it safe and never wore jeans (and if I did it was a day that we specifically got an email from boss man saying "it is jeans day tomorrow"). Now we have jeans day every Friday. Strangely, it's one of the things I'm always looking forward too.
I also have the same problem with dress pants! I wish I could find someone who is my exact size, length of legs, etc, and have them go around trying on tons of pants for me. I get so tired of it. I'd pay them for it.
Plus these days the stores (like Gap, etc.) are making their clothes larger and sizing smaller, so what used to be a size 4 pant now has written on it size 0.
I could go on and on about this.
14Ah yes, vanity sizing. It really just annoys me and makes it hard for me to find the right size. I mean, I have been a 10 for a while now. Every once in a while I would have to get an 8 or a 12, but 10 was my go-to size. My body has changed a little, but all of my old clothes still fit. However, half of the time I try on 10s and they are huge! And I love that you mentioned Gap, because I have had some of the biggest problems there. I typically need a large in tops but at Gap I know to usually get a medium. I got these t-shirts there in mediums and they are still big! I am not a small. Most people get happy about wearing a smaller size; I just get annoyed.
And I would so pay someone to try on dress pants for me! My problem is that I am smaller in the waist and bigger in the hips and thighs. Also, I am really short. I don't really mind getting pants hemmed (as long as the legs don't lose too much of the shape), but I have the problem that they are way too long in the crotch. This might be TMI, but oh well.
I obviously could go on and on for days about this, too!
15Haha. We should start a sugar group "dress pants don't fit us"
My problem is the opposite. I'm short and small, but have extra long legs and a short torso. Which means all the sizes that fit my waist are too short. And then, for whatever reason, when they call the same size "Long" they not only add length to the pants, they had some width to the waist. So it no longer fits.
16Sy, you do have long legs. Didn't you say somewhere that you're like 5 feet tall? It never looks it.
I am tall but with short legs and a torso that won't quit! But I just don't like pants because who wants to draw attention to their butt? Plus they don't skim over my middle like dresses do after a big lunch.
17Yeah I'm about 5'1. My inseam runs around 32 inches.
That's why I like pants with a little higher rise, keep the pooch in place.
The jeans in this look are my "glorious booty" jeans according to my husband. Paige denim does some amazing things to buttocks!
18That is nuts. My inseam runs about 32", but I've got six or seven inches on you height-wise.
I always shy away from anything too form fitting. I'm happy and comfortable with my body (aside from the torso you could eat dinner off of, I'm blessed with good proportions), but I don't ever wear anything approaching tight or snug. It's just not in my nature, so I love dresses and almost never wear jeans.
19I hear you ladies. I have the hour glass problem. If I get jeans that fit my hips they're huge in my waist and if I get jeans that fit my waist my big ole bootie won't fit in them. I started to get the highest low rise I could find to try and illeviate the problem...but honestly I've just started wearing less jeans. They don't make them for my body type and if they do I haven't found them!
20Harm I have the hour glass problem as well. I like the jeans from JCrew and I watch my rise like you. The lower the rise the less "curve" issues I have to deal with.
21So much reading! I have a headache. Here's why I love your look: Cuz you look cute!, cuz it's doable, and cuz I can be cute like you if I try it. There.
22so cute. love the headband! you look great for jeans friday.
