My Social Commentary on Soldiers, Saints and Changing the World
I apologize for the seriousness of this image. I "accidentally" happened to create it while I was at work the other day. Looking at it, I suppose that what I'm trying to say is that changing the world means living it in a way that life hasn't lived before despite ancient traditions and old habits of doing and thinking that might berate us, form a wall to block us, or just plain give us weird looks as we pass by.
I removed the letter "K" in the quote by James Baldwin so that the viewer can see through the quote into the same direction that the soldiers are walking together. Otherwise, how can "the world [be] before you" if even words are in the way? The soldiers are walking towards a vintage wallpaper which symbolizes the past. Even though this wallpaper lies before them, they hold hands and continue in a forward direction away from the present world, which is symbolized by the person looking at this image (you!).
Every part of this visual came from parts of pictures that I found while Googling. I came across the quote by accident, but I purposely Googled "St. Christopher", "vintage wallpaper", and "holding hands". In this way, this image was born. Hope it makes you learn, think, and feel many things that you'll share with me soon ^_^ Do you ever make art like this in your free--or not so free--time?
