It's no secret that little girls are growing up fast these days. (Ahem, Nair.) But with the opening of the world's first Barbie store, fast just got faster. Located in Buenos Aires, it's a "fashion-tainment" boutique that specializes in giving girls the full-blown Barbie experience.

Barbie may have a new high-tech career, but Computer Engineer Barbie isn't the only technologically inclined girl on the block. Barbie Video Girl has a video camera built right in! The lens is in her necklace, and video is displayed on an LCD screen on her back.

For its annual swimsuit edition, Sports Illustrated might pretend that posing in a bathing suit counts as an athletic activity, but that won't suffice for Miss England's new sports challenge. The pageant has decided to ax the swimsuit competition and add sports.
After Katrina Hodge — a soldier in the British army — won the title of Miss England last year, the pageant decided to ditch the sexy portion after 50 years.

In botulism news, a 16-year-old British girl is being given Botox by her mother, the self-proclaimed "Human Barbie" who's had almost a million dollars in plastic surgery herself. Given the context, I guess, the story isn't terribly surprising. What most concerns me about this is that the young girl who's using it says she's "met plenty of girls my age who are having these procedures," and "everyone at my school was talking about having B."

I put out a call via Twitter and Facebook last month for you guys to vote for "Computer Engineer" as Barbie's new career — and you totally did! Announced today, the newest additions to the Barbie family will include two professions: computer engineer (which won by popular vote — way to go geeks!) and news anchor (took the top vote among girls).
Not only will Computer Engineer Barbie be attached to her shiny pink laptop and Bluetooth earpiece, but Mattel worked closely with the Society of Women Engineers to ensure that Barbie's fashions were as geek chic as possible.

Can you believe it's that time again? The 14th cycle (count 'em — 14!) of America's Next Top Model is fast-approaching on March 10, and we're already getting a sneak peek at the young women who will be vying for the title. Last season's contestants will be hard to top — I can't imagine anyone being quite as charming to watch as Laura — but a few in the bunch are snagging my attention (even though I'm not quite sure why they've dressed them up like Lady Gaga/'80s Barbie).
