I've been into the skull trend for a year now, but ever since I saw this AT:NY house tour, my love for three-dimensional skulls was solidified. I'm not a fan of Hot Topic-esque skull motifs or patterns, but realistic shapes, like Dan Akroyd's Crystal Head vodka or this shimmery Z Gallerie Metallic Skull ($24.95) have me head over heels.

It has been reported that Chinese cigarette packs will have skulls, blackened teeth or diseased lungs printed on them in the latest effort to curb smoking. The US might be moving this way too when it comes to warning labels. Hopefully these scary images will ward off troubled teens from smoking.

Although I've covered blingy skulls before, I had to share these handcrafted bejeweled skulls by artist Amy Sarkasian with you. I love the colorful baubles affixed to the skull's surface. Are you a fan?

Skulls might be coming back from the dead for the next couple days since it's time to celebrate Día de los Muertos, but they're also having a comeback in the underworld of home interiors. Everything from doormats and rugs to candles, lamps, and chandeliers have been morbidly stamped with or shaped like a skull. I think a touch of ghoulish humor chez toi is sexy, dangerous, and definitely a must.

The skull trend may be wearing out its welcome a bit, but it's still totally appropriate for this spooky season. To go all out, decorate with the Mirrored Skull ($2,800) from Esque Design, crafted from clear glass with a silver interior. This skull is hand sculpted, and is a signed limited edition of 50.

We all thought this scary skull and bones phase was just a quick fad, but as it turns out, this is one style that's survived becoming a mere one season wonder. This holiday, if you are ready to spend some serious cash on stylish and spooky accessories, here are a few items that are cool enough to make your winter bones rattle.
Thomas Wylde Newborn Baby Portabello Bag is a slouchy and super soft leather shoulder bag with skull rivet detailing.

We've been hearing about this so-called skull trend for months, but most of the skull-emblazoned fashion I've seen looks like it belongs more in a Hot Topic than in a high-end boutique. But if you must wear a skull motif, the key is keeping it subtle and avoiding garments that could double as pirate flags.
Here are a few skullified finds:

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was one of the big movie releases this year I was half uber-excited about, and half secretly dreading. As a big fan of the first set of movies, the prospect of a fourth, years later was a little scary. Harrison Ford was 64 years old during filming, and I didn't want the memory of our whip-cracking, snake-fearing hero to be tarnished.

I swear Jade Jagger reads Fab. Shortly after I announced her a Fabcon, her new jewelry line popped up in ELLE and our favorite shopping websites. Obviously I dig her boho, rock n' roll vibe, but aren't we a little over skulls?

This very realistic, glazed, ivory porcelain skull ($439) was designed by Bavarian sculptor Franz Ignaz Günther in 1756, well before skulls were cool. It is still produced today by the same Munich-based porcelain manufacturer, Nymphenburg. Given that it was designed as more of a sacred figure than a trendy home accessory, does it appeal to you?
