It's obviously difficult to adapt a beloved written (and, in this case, drawn) work for the big screen — and it’s downright impossible to make an adaptation that satisfies every viewer (or certainly every megafan). I truly enjoyed reading the comic book series Watchmen by Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore, and having seen the film adaptation, I don't dislike it. It's probably the best we could have asked for as far as adaptations go.

OK, I'll admit it: When I first saw the teaser trailer for Watchmen, I didn't really get it. I liked the look of it and I think the use of that Smashing Pumpkins song "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning" is inspired. But I didn't understand what was going on, unfamiliar as I was with the source material.

The dispute over Watchmen won't be handed down by a judge next week after all. Fox and Warner Bros. have reached a settlement and will request that the case be dismissed.

300 director Zack Snyder's next project is Watchmen, an adaptation of the 1980s comic book series by Alan Moore. For many weeks there have been rumors going around about who, exactly, we'd be watching in Watchmen (Keanu Reeves? Jude Law?) and now that the cast has been finalized, I am even more excited for this project.

Hello, Buzz Book Club readers. I hope you enjoyed the end of Watchmen! I think it's an especially good idea to read the book before you see the movie in this case, because a huge part of the fun will be seeing how close the film gets to the look and feel of the artwork.

Calling all fangirls and Buzz Book Club readers: One of the most highly anticipated movies of '09 is coming to a theater near you on March 6, so this month's book club selection is the critically acclaimed series of comic books, Watchmen.
The saga of bringing this comic book series to the screen has been most dramatic. Director Terry Gilliam, who was first attached to the project, deemed the complex, groundbreaking work "unfilmable."

While parents flock to theaters to see the very adult-oriented flick Watchmen, action figures like this Watchmen Movie Figure Wave 1 ($17) are jumping on and off shelves.
Most young children won't be exposed to the Watchmen film (it's rated R and, according to Buzz, quite graphic), but the appeal of the toys is understandable. This one in particular has a grandiose Mr. Incredible look to it.

Zack Snyder's long-awaited screen adaptation of Watchmen finally hit theaters over the weekend and scored the best opening of the year with an estimated $55.7 million. Apparently that's actually a bit of a disappointment to the studio which, according to Variety, "had hoped Watchmen would match, or even best, the $70.9 million domestic opening of Zack Snyder's previous film, 300, which bowed on the same weekend in 2007."
The rest of the top five at the box office was all mixed up with Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail coming in second place, followed by Taken in third, Slumdog Millionaire in fourth, and Paul Blart: Mall Cop in the fifth spot.
